About Susan

Licensed Massage Therapist

I am a licensed massage therapist experienced in numerous modalities and work with clients of all ages and backgrounds. In addition, I have extensive experience working with athletes – from beginner to elite. Some of my clients have completed marathons, ultramarathons, triathlons, and Ironman events.

I place importance on thoughtful communication prior to your session in order to tailor each session to address your specific issues and goals.

Consistent massage can help in the prevention and recovery of injuries to keep the athlete in top performance. Many injuries are caused by overuse – repetitive motions that tend to tighten and microscopically tear fibers of muscles, tendons, and ligaments; massage intervenes in this process. By keeping muscles pliable, flushed of metabolic waste products, free of trigger points and bound scar tissue, injuries can be kept to a minimum when receiving regular massage.

Sports Massage after a workout with Susan Civitillo

Susan Civitillo at the Boston MarathonAs a marathoner myself, including Boston Marathon in 2015 & 2018, I am familiar with the aches and pains associated with heavy training and how to address them. Massage keeps the athlete feeling good and not subject to the discomfort and pain that heavy training without massage can cause.

In addition to doing massage, in August 2022 I graduated from the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering at sports-related clinics and events for adults and children with intellectual and/or physical disabilities; and have several years of experience doing chair massage at a day center for adults with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Whether for relaxation, stress-reduction, relieving muscle soreness, or preparing for your next athletic event, I look forward to helping you achieve your therapeutic goals through skilled and compassionate bodywork.
